I was interested in trying to capture that moment just as he is leaving childhood and about to be larger than me and all the implications of that…it’s very hard to relate easily…conflicted but close… I thought it would be good to catch that, fight/cuddle hinge, somehow.’ -Sharon

I met Sharon, a single mother of two sons, in the Spring of 2019. She was visiting a mutual London friend when we met by chance in a gallery. During our brief encounter, she told me she had been looking for a photographer to photograph her and her eldest son who was soon to turn 13, as well soon to surpass her in height. The mutual friend email-introduced us that evening and after a short correspondence, Sharon invited me to Mytholmroyd for a weekend to photograph her and her two sons.

That weekend, I made a series of photographs of Sharon and her sons. Sharon also introduced me to another single mother, and her soon to be 13 year old son, whom I also photographed.
